Housing Assistant (Temporary NTE 1 Year)

The Housing Assistant serves as a primary housing resource person for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Performs direct housing searches which includes the following driving clients to the Public Housing Authority (PHA) to receive their voucher, providing housing lists and transportation. Assists Veterans in completing housing applications, Voucher applications, and transportation to units for lease signing. Identifies local landlords and realtors to find potential housing units for Veterans to lease. Maintains a database of landlords and property management companies that accept the housing choice voucher. Provides assistance with moves to housing to include obtaining necessities and furniture, scheduling furniture move in and turning on utilities. Establishes effective relationships with Veterans and with the clinical and administrative staff of the Homeless Program, community partner agencies, and leadership. Provides training/information to the Veterans, the HCHV Team, other VA Departments and community partners on resources. Organizes and conducts housing fairs regularly in collaboration with local PHA, and community partners to increase landlords. Works with team members to obtain needed funds for security and utility deposits and furnishings needed for the housing unit. Acts as a liaison between all parties which includes landlords, PHA and Veterans to address housing needs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
to providing training and assistance to customers; providing information to clients reference housing, shelter, benefits/services/employment; assisting clients in completing forms, applications, vouchers; maintaining databases or spreadsheets; performing clerical/administrative duties, and other related duties . Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school (Education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college or university) (transcripts required) OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
Generally work is sedentary. Some walking, climbing stairs, standing and handling and carrying of light to moderately heavy objects is required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. A valid driver's license is required as some driving and/or transportation may be required to take Veterans to medical appointments, job sites, social activities and other community resources. Incumbent must complete any driver annual training that may be required by the facility in order to drive a government vehicle. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
